71 of the 72 members of the Independent order of Odd Fellows North Point Lodge 4 chartered in 1913 were soldiers serving at the Fort Howard Military Reservation in Fort Howard, Maryland.
As part of the nation’s 2018 World War I Centennial Year Commemoration, the Fort Howard Memorial Day Ceremony observed yearly since 1945 at today’s historic Fort Howard Veterans Park located at 9111 North Point Road, Fort Howard, Maryland 21052 will be lead for the 73rd consecutive year by that same Lodge 4 memorializing the 62,000 Marylanders who served in World War I.
The United States World War I Centennial Commission has recognized the rich military history of Fort Howard and the charter soldier lodge members by listing this historical 2018 World War I Memorial Day on the United States World War Centennial Commission website. It will be permanently archived as one of the nation’s World War I Centennial Memorial Day Events.
Special ceremonial mention will be awarded to Lodge 4 soldier/members Leopold Rogers and Joseph Buyers who lost their lives serving in the Great War.
The Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge 4 will serve after event refreshments the Lodge 4 Hall located at 9400 North Point Road, Fort Howard Maryland, 21052 only four blocks south of the historic Fort Howard Veterans Park.
The Fort Howard Veterans Park shoreline was the historic landing site of the British army a hundred years earlier during the War of 1812.
